He thoroughly explains why you fish certain areas and use certain flies and techniques rater than skimming over the details. I've fished the Snake for more than twenty years and I picked up some good information from the book. While guide books are great, Snake River Fly Fishing is more, and covers the history of the area, its fish species, anglers and flies. The history gives you a better understanding of the fishery and how flies and techniques were created or adapted to it. This not only educates, but it also entertains. Certainly other books have been written on the Snake River, but his one is at the top of the heap.
